Open Door Baltimore (ODB) is chasing a dream.  The American dream.

Where others fail to see answers, we think they're just asking the wrong questions.
  • What if Marylanders decided that 25% of Baltimoreans living in inter-generational poverty was no longer acceptable in the richest nation in the union?
  • What if people of different faiths and personal beliefs decided to work together instead of just shouting at each other?
  • What if neighborhoods conditioned to depend on public assistance were given real access to the free market capitalist system?
  • What if people began to understand that real solutions are within our reach and much more affordable than the continuance of social failure?
  • What if an organization came along that integrated the transformational power of the scriptures, the practical impact of hard work and best practices, and the inspirational elements of civic pride and community cooperation?
Make no mistake, ODB is challenging the status quo of modern America.  Working in partnership with private citizens, businesses, faith-based organizations, government agencies and other nonprofits, ODB believes that positive change is not only possible, it is inevitable and sustainable.  ODB's approach is stunningly basic and commonsensical:  change the climate and future of an impoverished neighborhood by focusing attention on young adults with children over an extended period of time.

No quick fixes.  No simple answers.  Instead, a determined commitment to a future in which young adults complete their educations, clean up any past mistakes, learn to compete in the workplace, and assume the mantle of leadership within their families and communities.
